This is What To Avoid In A Real Estate Agent
Just like when you are performing a home search you should be aware of some common red flags that may pop up. If you have to, you can keep notes on what you should avoid and carry them around with you when you interview different real estate agents.
What’s in it for you?
The first thing that you should avoid is also something that could turn out to be a good thing. Some agents will recommend that you work with specific lenders. While this may sound like a good thing you should do the research on the lender before saying "yes" to anything. This type of red flag can go either way.
Be Aware of Profitable Partnerships
You should keep in mind that an agent cannot legally force you to work with any particular provider. They can only make suggestions. There are some real estate agents who will also try to get you to use certain home inspectors as well. This is along the same lines as lenders so you have the option of saying "no" if you want to.
Be Wary Of The Double Agent
The biggest problem that you want to avoid is an agent that works for both buyers and sellers. This is a situation that is set up to fail. An agent cannot try to get the highest amount for the seller and try to get the lowest amount for the buyer, at the same time. It is the number one situation to avoid in your agent search.
Read The Reviews
Reviews are going to be your big help in your search. Always read reviews and see how other clients have viewed specific real estate agents. If you notice a lot more negative than positive, it is time to mark that lender off the list and keep looking.
When buying a home a trustworthy real estate agent is key. Ask questions about things you do not understand, don't be afraid to ask how the situation will benefit you and finally, go with your gut. If a situation does not feel right don't be afraid to find a new agent.
